Initial situation
At CHEMPARK, CURRENTA operates numerous rotating machines such as pumps, motors and fans that are essential for utility supply. The pumps at the Krefeld-Uerdingen river waterworks were serviced at regular intervals – regardless of their actual condition. Damage occurred unexpectedly and led to unplanned downtime, high costs and safety risks.
Challenge
- No condition data available
Pumps and fans were maintained purely on a time basis – regardless of actual wear - High maintenance costs and safety risks
Faults were detected late, repairs were complex and caused downtime.
Solution
Smart sensors for rotating machines – maintenance-free, retrofittable and with AI-supported fault analysis.
- Retrofitting
Installation of battery-powered vibration sensors (ATEX-certified) on three pumps at the Krefeld-Uerdingen river waterworks – without any wiring. - Wireless condition monitoring via LoRaWAN
The sensors continuously measure temperature and vibration and transmit the data securely to the cloud. - Prediction of potential failures
Damage such as imbalances or bearing play is detected early via FFT & threshold logic – supported by AI and vibration expertise. - Visualisation & optimisation
A central web dashboard raises alarms, shows trends, visualises machine health, highlights anomalies and delivers actionable recommendations.

Results
- 70% less downtime
- 30% longer service life
- Increased operational safety
